I am sure there are many people out there that will agree with me when I say Supernatural is one of the best shows on tv.

It has everything a girl needs, 2 hot main characters, demons, angels, plenty of drama and action and of course bad things getting killed.

I have happily watched the show for the past 4 seasons and whilst browsing the web, to find out when the new season starts over here, I was shocked to discover that ITV2 don't have plans to pick up season 5. Given that Eric Kripke's contract was only for 5 years, there is a possibility that the next could be the last. I can't really understand why after showing it for the past 4 years they wouldn't pick up what could potentially be the last season. It is rated in their top 30. But enough of my moaning I'll get back to making a page about the show.

Dean

Dean being the older brother he has always been protective over Sam, especially after what happened to their mother. In the episode 'Something Wicked', Dean is forced to relive a time he left Sam alone when he was supposed to be watching him and a Shtriga almost got him! He grew up following his father's orders and after that experience with the Shtriga he swore he would never disobey his father again. He has grown up a hunter and with all the skills and bravado he still has a softer side, it was good to show he had real feelings for someone, Cassie. The whole family's habit of giving their lifes to save each other finally got Dean killed, despite Sam and Bobby's best efforts to save his soul, he gets dragged into Hell. Fortunately, not for long, well not long for Sam (for Dean it was 40 years!), for the most part I believed that they would find a way to save him as the show would be rubbish without him.  After watching him get dragged into Hell, I began to wonder how they would bring him back.  I did not think that was how they would do it.  The beginning of season 4 was just tremendous, bringing Dean back from Hell, the introduction of angels, Eric Kripke is an excellent writer. Dean has been different since his return from Hell, of course you would expect that place to change you. He seems to show his emotions more but there is also a darker side to him, darker than it was before anyway. I am so looking forward to the next season, to hopefully find out what the angels have planned for Dean.  You have to wonder what is so special about him, that the Angels believe only he can defeat Lucifer!

Sam

As the story unfolds it comes to light that what happened to their mother was not random. Sam was selected by a demon called Azazel, the Yellow Eyed demon. Azazel made a deal with Sam's mother when she was young to save John's life, but she interrupted Azazel when he paid a visit to Sam when he was 6 months old. Dripping his own blood into baby Sam's mouth, he shows certain abilities before the first episode as we discover he had dreams of Jessica's death for days before it happened, he shows both telekinetic and precognitive abilities probably related to the demon blood. He becomes colder in season 3, after being brought back from the dead by Dean. He always tried his best to save the human host of demons, but in season 3 its clear he shows no remorse anymore, he cold bloodedly kills the cross-roads demon and decapitates Gordon without a second thought. When Dean got dragged to hell at the end of season 4, Sam only got darker and grimmer. He is working with Ruby, in more ways than one, using his powers to kill demons with only his mind. As the season progresses it is revealed that Sam has been drinking demon blood in order to make himself stronger, trusting a demon. Season 4 was pretty explosive, in the end Ruby convinces Sam that he must kill Lilith to stop the apocalypse, however in doing so he unwittingly breaks the last seal and unleashes Lucifer. With the help of Castiel Dean rushes to stop him, but in fact the angels were intending for it to happen. It is unclear what changes have occurred in Sam from his association with Ruby and the drinking of demon blood, when he uses his powers to kill Lilith, his eyes turn black just like when a demon is possessing a human.

Castiel

The introduction of angels at the beginning of season 4 was just genius and Misha Collins as Castiel was an excellent choice. I had never seen him in anything before, but he is a great actor and seems to be wholly believable as an angel. It unfolds that it was him who pulled Dean out of hell, under orders from above, as they have a job for him to do. He does not fit in with most people's typical view of angels, he doesn't help people and is quite willing to kill innocent people if the need arises. But it would seem that something about Dean has been making him consider things and he show a tiny amount of emotion. He has tried to help Dean on a few occasions and it would seem he may have been going against his orders. At the end of season 4 he helps Dean find Sam to try and stop him from killing Lilith. When Castiel is able to capture the demon Alastair, but he is not willing to talk, Uriel tells Dean he must torture the information out of him although Castiel does not want him to do it. It would seem at times that Uriel is in charge. When Alastair is able to escape from the devil's trap, it makes Castiel suspicious and he confronts Uriel. It turns out that Uriel and certain other angels are no longer working for Heaven, they are working together to free Lucifer. Uriel overpowers Castiel when he refuses to join him, but is killed by Anna (a fallen angel). In the last episode Castiel remains behind to hold up the Archangel while sending Dean to Sam, it's unclear now where his orders are coming from and who knows what will happen to him in season 5.

1967 Chevy Impala

Dean's pride and joy, the 1967 Chevy Impala, was given to him by his father. Although in the episode Dean is sent back in time by Castiel, it turns out that he interacted with his father and even picked the car out himself. He has been known to talk to the car as if it were a person, he loves his car as much as he loves his family. Although after the accident, at the end of Season 1, the car is wrecked, his dad dies to save him and shares a secret about Sam, stressing out about the secret and after talking to Sam he attacks the back end of it while he is repairing it. The boot of the car is where they keep all their demon killing gear, plenty of guns, holy water, rock salt and lots more weapons. It also has a devils trap painted on it. The licence plate is kind of a trademark KAZ 2Y5, it relates to there home town of Kansas and also 2005, the year the show first aired. But after having to go on the run from the FBI, they changed the plate to CNK 80Q3.

Azazel

Azazel - also known as the yellow-eyed demon, was the main enemy during season 1 & 2, though he also made a few appearances in later episodes, before being shot in the heart by Dean, with the colt. It isn't until season 4, long after Dean killed him, that it becomes clear why their mother died all those years ago. Dean travels back in time and sees his mother and father just falling in love, his mother makes a deal with Azazel to save John's life, but 10 years later when he returns to collect on his deal, Mary interrupts him in Sam's nursery and she dies for it. He has children of his own in the show, his daughter Meg Masters meets up with Sam and tries to get close to him. She lures the brothers to a warehouse and captures them in an effort to trap their father, she has been summoning the Daeva (shadow monsters) and when the brothers escape and wreck her altar the Daeva turn on her and throw her out a seven story window. Her and her brother Tom, manage to lure John into a trap and take him hostage, she goes to find the brothers and gets caught and exorcised. This is not the last of her however, as she escapes from hell and makes a reappearance in season 2. In one episode he tortures Dean for killing his son, who was beating up Sam in an alley in Devil's Trap. It seems he had big plans for Sam and his other special children, he made deals with their parents to allow him access to their home and when the child was 6 months old he snuck into their nursery to feed them his own blood. Like Mary, if he was interrupted during this the person dies, pinned to the ceiling with blood flowing from the stomach before bursting into flames. It had seemed that his end game was to open the gates of hell, releasing a demon army, with one of his special children to lead it. But his actual plan was kept secret even from the angels, and was revealed at the end of Season 4. He has spoken with Lucifer who tells Azazel how to free him, he needs a special child (Sam) to break the final seal and begin the apocalypse.

Ruby

Ruby, she is a demon but she appears to be helping the brothers in their fight, at times seemingly willing to forsake her own life to help do something good. However, myself, like Dean, never really trusted her from the start. She tried to convince them that she still remembered what it was like to be a human and this made her different from the other demons. She first appeared in season 3 in the episode 'The Magnificent Seven', and assisted the brothers throughout. She helped Bobby restore the colt, so that it could be used to kill demons again. In the season finale of season 3, while the trio are on the run from the hellhounds tracking Dean down, Lilith takes over her host and sends her back to Hell. After the hellhounds drag Dean to Hell, Lilith tries to kill Sam but discovers her powers don't work on him. Sam seems to be spiralling down a path of self-destruction after Dean's death and when Ruby returns from Hell after allegedly regaining Lilith's trust, he at first refuses to work with her. But he ends up sleeping with her (once that we know of) and seems to trust her implicitly. She begins training him to kill demons using his powers and feeds him demon blood apparently to give him more strength, she also keeps him convinced that he is the only one who can kill Lilith and stop the apocalypse. It is revealed in the season finale that she has been manipulating Sam from the beginning, she wanted Lucifer free and needed Sam to bring about the apocalypse. Dean also gets the chance to kill her, with her own knife, something he has been wanting to do for a long time!  Personally, I think I preferred the first Ruby!

Thats all for now!

Well I think for now I've managed to get a little bit about some of the main players!  There are so many characters that played quite a significant role in the show.  Notably, I have yet to write about John but that is still to come.  I thought I would get this out there and see what you think.
